Somatic Embodiment: Honoring Your Body’s Wisdom
In many contemporary fitness studios, yoga has been reshaped into a competitive physical exercise. At Journey with Nawal, we return to yoga’s contemplative and restorative roots.
Our approach is deeply somatic—focused on internal sensation (interoception) rather than external aesthetic shapes. When we move with intentional breath and curiosity, we create space for the body to discharge stored stress held within the fascia, spine, and psoas muscles (the primary somatic 'fight-or-flight' stabilizers).
Pranayama: The Physiology of Conscious Breathing
The breath is the only autonomic bodily function that we can consciously control. Through targeted Pranayama techniques—such as lengthened exhalations, box breathing, and diaphragmatic pacing—we signal the vagus nerve to slow the heart rate and dilate blood vessels.
This conscious breathing shifts mental chatter into sustained presence, paving the way for calm focus during daily life and work in Muscat.
